Glassdoor is a company review website that collects real reviews from employees from different kind of companies and posts these on their website. They also collect real salary information from those employees and post this anonymously as well. This gives outsiders and potential employees good insight in the company.

Glassdoor is also featured on our employer branding page. Glassdoor is a company rating site that also offers salary information. The main focus of this part of the website is to tell employees if they are paid fair for their job and tell potential employees something about salary ranges at companies they are thinking about joining.

For employers Glassdoor can be used as a tool to check (quick and dirty) if salaries paid in your company are still competitive and fair. Like most apps and sites that do salary comparison this should always be taken as an indication, not as leading in your decisions.

Indeed is a platform. We know it for being a recruitment platform, but mainly for the US it also offers salary information. This is very basic information, scraped from their job listings and should only be used as an indication. It is featured on this website to show that you don’t always need software or the latest benchmarking information to get a quick and dirty feeling on what a salary indication for a certain role or branch is.

The term Kudos is widely accepted as the term we uso for appraisal. This tool takes that to an employee recognition app that will allow employees to give appraisal and feedback to each other through a company social network. The look and feel can be compared best with a social media platform. The app is clean and simple.

Receiving appraisal means also receiving points, and points can be exchanged for rewards and gifts. A very good option within Kudos is the possibility to set up your own custom awards. This can make the program even more personal. Use this option to create gifts that you know your employees will like.

Although the look and feel of Motivosity looks somewhat busy and like your average social media platform, the concept of giving eachother recognition and also receiving something extra for it that can be traded for something real is a fun way of integrating recognition and feedback in your company culture.

A lot of people like social media and  the way Motivosity is build is very recognizable for the social media adapts. It is good that Motivosity offers more than only simple recognition. The tool also has an organisational chart feature, the possibility to work with surveys and can work as your company intranet for news and announcements. This makes it a more complete tool. If you already have a feedback culture and tooling than adding Motivosity purely for recognition wouldn’t add anything.

PayScale offers insight on real time salary benchmark data. That it is real time is off course a benefit in comparison to more traditional benchmarking companies, who work with surveys and market research reports. With payScale you can easily select jobtypes, sector, company size and more to filter out what data you want to see. Very usable if you want to know if you are paying yopur employees right, or what salary you should offer a potential new hire.

PayScale gathers information from surveys, but also market research and industry experts. use this information as a guideline, not as the actual truth. There are so many opinions about what honest and fair salaries are, and you have to make sure that you can actually offer what is considered normal.

Klout score is a number between 1 and 100 that represents your influence online, measured through different networks. By connecting accounts to your Klout profile, you get a score that represents your personal online influence. Are you retweeted a lot? Is there a lot of interaction on your content? All of these actions are used to calculate your score.

Our view

Knowing your personal Klout score can be very interesting (and humouring), but the question is what you can actually do with it. It can be useful when working in the marketing industry. There are already examples from Canada and America where people in this industry are rejected or hired because of a low or high Klout score and their understanding of what it is or does.

And what can the HR professional or CEO do with this information? It can help you to find out who the real influencers are in your company. This could be valuable information in times of change, but it is hard to determine how you can really use it for your benefit.

A data visualization tool to better understand your networks. It is not really clear how Kumu can help you to better understand your network. It is clear however that you can build and visualise your network (or networks in general).

Perhaps network mappers like Kumu helps you to better understand who the top influencers are within your organisation. In times of change this can be valuable information. But you have to put some effort in creating your network maps.

It is very easy to share your maps with others online, so collaborating is made easy. In general we are not really impressed.

A visualisation of the networks in your organisation can be very helpful in times of change or if you want more grasp on what is going on in your organisation. Orgmapper provides insights by visualising the networks in your organisation, and  also shows you who top influencers are (whom they call your "change agents").

Easy to use and easy to get information with this survey tool.

Our view

Looking at OrgView it feels rather “large”  and thus it might fit better with large corporates. At first sight it looks like a tool to get an up-to-date organisational chart, but looking at it more thoroughly it also has features of a basic HR system, harnessing all your employees information, enabling you to see who does what and who possess which skills.

It is good to see that there are tools like OrgView,  to help you focus on your workforce. The question is, if it can be used by any HR professional without a BI background.
