Everyone needs good analytics and insight in their metrics these days. Having a tool that brings all your data together can really help, and PeopleInsight can be that tool. If synched correctly with your other platforms/tools you can get meaningful workforce insight in modern and good looking dashboards.

We should never forget that dashboards, overviews and graphs are nice and can really help you to work on strategic HR topics, but it always starts with the input of your data on the beginning of the process. PeopleInsght is not a HR tool for that purspose, it just brings your data together. Make sure your basic input is good (enough) and that an Excel sheet for visualisation isn't good enough anymore.

Amber is a smart AI assistant (chatbot) by the company inFeedo to help employers measure the mood in their company. Amber by inFeedo is a nice tool and in some way different from the other mood measurement tools featured on this website so far. This is because of the actual chatbot you talk to and that "measures the mood". It also does this on a name based level, so as a manager you can actually see who is feeling great and who is perhaps thinking about leaving? And that is also the approach of Amber, not only measure the mood, but also helping you react to people who are thinking about leaving the company.

You can pre-define the time span in which you want Amber to chat with your employees. It is not a set time span of a week or bi-weekly like we see at other tools, but you can set it up to chat with your employees on for example their first day, after three months and so on.

It is fully web based, so no installing required!

Findmyshift is everything you expect from a  modern scheduling tool. It is web based, comes with apps and allows you to easily plan employees on shift times. Employees can also easily swap shifts or cancel, and all you have to do is approve.

Findmyshift, in comparison with its competitors does feel a bit basic in the look and feel. It is not entirely clear, if the clocking functions come with GPS location tracking. Being a simple basic system makes it interesting for smaller companies.

For people working remotely or on different kind of (billable) projects, Hourstack can be a real help in planning and analysing time (and bill customers). It offers you standard calendar- and time tracking features, as you might expect from a time tracking tool.

Where it gets really interesting, is the integration possibility with other tools you might already use. Hourstack integrates for example with Google calendar, Slack, Trello and Asana. Thus giving you the possibility to easily plan time for different projects, communicate easily and work on documents together.

Probably works best for remote teams, freelance professionals and teams working mainly on projects instead of repetitive work.

Hub staff is a time tracking tool, but not one with the focus on tracking your time, but more from an employers perspective to see how time is spent. It offers automatic time tracking functionalities, with automated screenshots and activity tracking. You can also track time manually.

Employee monitoring is perhaps more culturally accepted in some countries then others.

Humanity is a good example of a scheduling tool that comes with a lot of additional features, and also more data insights. It has everything you might expect from a modern day scheduling tool, like shift planning, insights in employee availability, and mobile use.

By putting responsibility for trading shifts and adding availability in to employees hands, it can be a real time saver in planning and also for payroll purposes.

It also comes with an onboarding feature to get your staff up to speed in an easy and fast way. It comes with extensive reports, for insight or payroll purposes.

With Timely you get full insight on what activities you spend your working hours. Especially very useful for people who work with billable hours. The automatic time tracking is a good add-on. With the memory function your time spent on your device is automatically tracked and logged. Using a web browser or a spreadsheet? Timely tells you what you used and to a certain point also what you did.

It is especially very nice that you can add other apps to Timely, like Rescuetime and Google calendar. This save you a lot of time,  in doing your administration for billing purposes.

Can be used out of the box

Our view

Toggl is a good example of what a time tracking app should be, easy to start tracking time with a push on the button, without the hassle of setting up a large project administration. Just start tracking time and then fill out what it is for.

Works very well for people in solo roles, who need to track time for business purposes, or people who just want to have more of a grip of where they are spending time on during a day.

Scheduling tool for shift planning and time tracking. 'When I work' helps you to see who is available and allows you to plan your shifts. You can also easily alert your staff of the newly planned shift, use it as a clocking system and eventually use the time sheets for payroll purposes.

Our view

'When I work' is a good example of a scheduling app that covers the entire process,  from staff availability up to payroll according to time sheets. Staff can easily indicate their availability, which allows a manager to easily plan shifts. When the planning is done, the system alerts employees by email and text message about the new planning. Employees can trade shifts through the app, and the manager only has to approve or disapprove.

The good thing is that this tool puts a lot of responsibility in to the hands of the employees. Trading shifts, clocking in and out, fill in availability is all put in to the employees hands, giving managers less headaches in planning and rescheduling.

It has some nice features, like the GPS function when clocking in, so people can’t clock in from the beach when they should be at work. Probably works best in hospitality branches.

Employee rewards and recognition program. Give each other recognition and appraisals, and earn credits that you can spend in the giftshop. Also combining all employee reward programs in one.

chievers is a popular employee recognition program, that we also mentioned in our feedback overview. It is an employee recognition program setup like a company social network, focussed on giving recognition and appraisal to colleagues. Like other tools that do mostly the same, you can also earn credits that can be spend on gifts or on a donation to charity.

We believe tools like Achievers can have a real benefit for more recognition and appraisal. But we also believe that tools like this can only truly be of benefit if your company culture is ready. Is openly giving recognition already considered normal? And do you already have a feedback culture and are people comfortable with giving feedback.
